Hair Therapy
It's Sunday Morning. I have no where to be, no one to see, and nothing to do! A perfect time for a decadent hair oiling!
Why is it that I have to remind myself to oil my hair nowadays? With so many wonderful benefits, it's definitely something to consider putting into my regular schedule...right along with massages, facials, and other pampering activities, right? Right!
The biggest and quickest benefit of hair oiling is tactile, kinesthetic. It makes hair SOFT, immediately soft and silky.
Today I am trying Dabur's Vatika oil. My husband bought it after I made him return another Dabur oil which contained mineral oil (something I don't recommend). It smells sublime, a mixture of spring freshness and earthy grounded-ness. Intoxicating.
So, what's in this potent potion?
Dabur's Vatika Hair Oil
It's in a base of pure coconut oil, the recommended Indian oil for Springtime. The Vatika is enriched with:
- Neem
- Brahmi
- Amla
- Bahera
- Harar
- Kapur kachri
- Henna
- Rosemary oil
- Lemon oil
What are some of these plant ingredients?
Brahmi is an herbal nerve tonic known to enhance memory and a brain tonic to improve brain cell functioning. It induces a state of peace and calm. It helps with insomnia! It's recommended not only for restlessness in children but also memory loss in aging adults.
Amla, Indian Gooseberry, is renowned as a powerful skin and hair rejuvenator. A rich source of vitamin C, Amla is a natural antioxidant and can be used everyday, internally and externally.
Bahera helps to prevent premature greying of hair, ailments of the throat chakra and third eye, and reduces pain and burning sensations.
Harar, also known as Haritaki, feeds the brain and nerves too. It is one of the main ingredients in Triphala, the Ayurvedic formula, which is used in the treatment of enlarged liver and stomach disorders.
Kapur Kachri, also known as the spiked ginger lily, is a fragrant addition to the Vatika hair oil. It stimulates the hair roots and is antiseptic for the scalp. It is known to make hair thicker.
Henna, used by women since antiquity to dye their skin and hair, is anti-fungal and repels insects and mildew of all things. Henna flowers are used to create perfumes. Henna is thought to bestow blessings and is applied for luck, joy and beauty. It’s a great hair conditioner.
Rosemary oil soothes and conditions dry, flaky scalps making it a perfect antidote to dandruff. Rosemary also mixes well with tea tree and basil for stubborn scalp problems. An excellent hair conditioner, Rosemary restores darkness to gray hair over a long periodot time just like Bahera and increases circulation.
Lemon oil is an astringent and brings mental clarity and alertness. It can also help relieve dandruff and promote shiny hair.
Hair Treatment
So, the Vatika has been in my hair for about 90 minutes now. I'm ready to wash it out and get on with the day.
Hair Oiling Results
So, I’ve gotten the Vatika out of my hair and what I notice is that it definitely feels softer, as I anticipated, but it also seems to catch the light differently and it feels lighter. My curls are loose, light, and soft.
I keep tossing my head around. All I need now is a fan to blow wind through my hair sitting at my desk and I’d have my moment!
Not bad for a morning’s hair therapy.
